I love Valentine’s Day, and as much as I love celebrating with my sweetie, I also love celebrating as a family. This Valentine’s Day Breakfast is the perfect way to celebrate together -and share a little love with a special Valentine's Day Family Breakfast Party. I hope it gives you lots of Valentine's Day breakfast ideas.
Valentine's Day Buffet Breakfast
Valentine Breakfast Menu:
- stacks of mini pancakes
- whipped cream
- strawberries
- maple syrup
- Valentine's day sprinkles
- yogurt and granola parfaits
- scrambled eggs
- heart shaped breakfast sausage
- mini heart shaped jelly donuts
- pink hot chocolate
I started out with the beautiful buffet. When I decided to make a special Valentine’s Day Breakfast, I thought it would be fun to set it up as a buffet with lots of fun easy breakfast ideas for everyone. I love buffets for any special occasion. It's a great way to let guests serve themselves, especially when there's lots of different choices for the whole family.
Pancakes
Around our house, buttermilk pancakes are a real favourite on Sunday mornings. So for Valentine’s Day I made little silver dollar fluffy pancakes, and served them in little stacks. The pretty heart picks were the perfect final touch.
We love to top our pancakes with real maple syrup -we are Canadian after all. We also had some whipped cream, fresh strawberries, and the sweetest little heart sprinkles, which are such a fun way to make these into special treats for Valentine's day. Lots of strawberries are a must. You could also make heart pancakes if you wish. These are perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. Made from simple ingredients, pancakes are always the start to a delicious breakfast.
Heart Shaped Sausage
Along with the wonderful pancakes, we had to have some sausages. To make them a little more festive, I cooked sausage patties, and then made them into heart shapes with a cookie cutter. You could also use this technique on frozen hash browns if you wanted as an easy way to include another savory breakfast option.
Yogurt Granola Parfaits
I also made some breakfast parfaits -no cooking skills required.
These are made with some vanilla or greek yogurt sweetened with honey and my favorite recipe for homemade granola -get the recipe here.
They got dressed up for Valentine’s Day with some strawberry hearts on top. The heart shaped strawberries are such an easy valentine's day breakfast addition. Just use a knife to cut them out. You could use any fresh fruit for a healthy breakfast option anytime.
Eggs
I also made some really simple scrambled eggs. Egg are always perfect for breakfast, and I've found scrambled are usually well received by children. They're dressed up for valentine's breakfast in cute heart shaped serving bowl.
Mini Heart Shaped Jelly Donuts
And one of our very favorite cute valentine's day breakfast ideas for our special morning, we had homemade jelly donuts -get the recipe here.
These heart shaped donuts add a great sweet note, and are pretty easy to make. They're also the perfect recipe for entertaining because the dough for them is made in the bread machine! These are so good, and great for any holiday season. Make the vanilla donuts and then cut them out with a mini heart-shaped cookie cutter, and after rolling them in sugar, fill them with your favorite jam. They're the perfect addition to any valentine breakfast.
Paper Flower Backdrop
My very favourite element of the Valentine’s Day Breakfast Buffet though, has to be the amazing paper flower backdrop.
I actually made the flowers last year and had them stored in a plastic bag in the basement, since they’re so pretty I couldn’t bear to throw them out. They’re quite easy to make -you can see my how-to video by clicking here. I used pinks, white, some off-white, and some book page papers. Some have a little pink paint added here and there too. To hang them over the buffet, I hot glued them all to some paper in a kind of swag, and then used command hooks to secure the paper to the wall. Prepare this all the day before, and the next morning it will be already and waiting for you.
The giant paper flowers are so pretty, I don’t think I want to take them down!
Valentine's Day Table
For the Valentine’s Day Dining Table, I kept it pretty simple. I layered a few runners I already had, and added some beautiful flowers.
I used an assortment of thrifted milk glass bud vases, and added some roses and tulips.
The flowers are really simple and easy to do, but have lots of impact.
I thought the roses tied in really well with the big paper roses in the backdrop too.
For the table settings we kept things pretty simple too. These pretty heart plates are from a garage sale years ago, and I always try to remember to pull them out this time of year.
I wanted to keep things pretty neutral, in keeping with the Rustic Scandinavian feel of the room, with just enough festive pink to make it feel like Valentine's Day. You could include red roses if you prefer.
The simple wooden heart chalkboards are from the dollar store and I thought they were the great rustic touch to create the perfect breakfast table.
Valentine's Pink Hot Chocolate Stand
Over in the corner, one more special touch, a little pink hot chocolate stand.
I picked up the sweet heart marshmallows at the Asian grocery store -they’re so perfect for Valentine’s Day.
The easiest way to make pink hot chocolate, just add a little red food colouring to white hot chocolate -perfect for Valentine’s Day. And here’s a little entertaining tip, serve it in a teapot. I found some white hot chocolate mix at the store, but if you can't find it melt some white chocolate in some milk, and then add your pink food coloring to it. It's the perfect fun twist to regular hot chocolate for valentine's moring. Of course you'll want to have a cup of coffee available for any grown ups attending your special valentine's day morning celebration.
This was such a fun and sweet little family party on valentine's morning. I hope you’re feeling inspired to do something special with your family to celebrate love day together -whether big or small, make sure to show your loved ones how much they mean to you.
With a special Valentine’s Day Breakfast, life really is a party!
