We love celebrating Christmas here. It's our very, very favourite holiday. When my kids were little I always made them a Christmas Activity Advent Calendar. I've put together 60 different ideas for advent calendar activities. Just pick your favourite 24, print, and start making family Christmas memories together!
Christmas Printable Advent Calendar Activities
When my kids were little they absolutely loved their Advent Activity Calendar. Each day they would open their calendar to find a special Christmas activity that we would do together that day.
These activities are the stuff that Christmas memories are made of.
I love that by focusing on some quality time together, we make sure that our kids remember a lot more than just gifts.
It's so easy to get super busy this time of year, and having one of these activities to focus on each day helped me be a little more present as a parent.
Lots Of Choices
There are over 60 different activities to choose from included. There are also three designs. Choose from the yellow star pattern, pink and blue Santa pattern, or the green woodland animals pattern.
There is a big variety of activities. Some are extra special and might require a little pre-planning -like making a gingerbread house, or going to cut down a Christmas tree.
But others are really simple like cutting out a paper snowflake, making hot chocolate, or calling the grandparents and singing a Christmas song to them.
I asked my kids what some of their favourites were from years past and they said having a Christmas picnic under the Christmas tree, wearing Christmas socks, painting their fingernails red and green, and a special bubble bath with Christmas music. Ha, ha. These really are some special Christmas memories for all of us.
Fill A Reusable Calendar or Make One
To create your calendar you can use a refillable advent calendar like this one, or one with little doors. You can include a little mini candy treat too, if you choose to. Another great idea is to use small envelopes or tiny paper bags.
The possibilities are endless. This is one I made a few years ago. Each little house is open on the bottom and you add an activity card inside. Find the pattern and tutorial for the Little House Advent Calendar here.
Top Tip
My little bit of advice, from my own regret in years past, is to make a master calendar for yourself so that you don't forget what you had planned and can make sure you have the materials on hand.
For example, remember to buy hot chocolate for that day -or make some using our homemade hot chocolate mix recipe, and some pick up some hotdogs for picnic day... or whatever you need for the activities you choose.
Or fill in your calendar the night before so that you can pick something that works for you day by day.
I would also suggest not making it too hard on yourself. Make use of the easier activity cards on really busy school nights. And make sure to include the activities you would be doing anyway, like going to a school concert, or going to cut down the Chrsitmas tree.
