Welcome to my Christmas Home Tour. Today I want to invite you in to see my vintage inspired Christmas decor ideas. So, grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea, and come on in.

Front Porch

The front door got a little colour this year, inspired by my turquoise Christmas lights. I usually lean towards white, but I must say this hit of colour is making me smile this year. The old skates, and vintage enamelware pots are setting the tone for my vintage inspired Christmas decor theme this year. And on the front door, one of my fav. little projects ever -the pot scrubber wreath -see how I made it here, made from dollar store pot scrubbers and adding a little sparkle.

Entrance

Well, come in out of the cold. At the entrance of our home we have a console table, and here it is all decorated for Christmas.

I found a few vintage decorations at a second hand store. As soon as Halloween was over I started hunting. I think this little guy might have originally been a cake topper?

These pretty postcards are from a craft sale.  They're vintage Christmas images printed on wood veneer. So pretty.

Vintage Christmas Decor Ideas in the Dinning Room

This is the entrance of the dining room, and it's all dressed up for Christmas too. Here's the view of the dining room table, looking into the living room.

I love getting out all my little table top trees each year, and adding a few new ones -although I certainly don't need any more. This year I wanted to add a little gold into the mix.

I have so many silver trees, it's been a real favourite, but I'm loving the tread of mixing in gold. The addition of a little pink and turquoise help add the vintage feel. I love the sparkle of the mercy glass tea light holders too.

On Christmas day, I'll move all the trees to the buffet to make room for dinner. We're hosting this year!

Buffet

Right now the buffet has a few candles, with the pretty chalkboard above it along with a couple of vintage Christmas cards in simple white frames.

I found this pretty metal snowflake garland years and years ago at a boxing week sale. I thought it looked old and vintage-y too.

This little Santa was another fun find at the second hand store.

The Stairway

The dining room leads into the living room, and the stairs -up to the bedrooms or down to the basement.

I love how the stairs turned out this year. I usually use just the glitter garland, but this year my sister did it for me, and added in the real pieces of pine -thanks Heather. 😉 Then we added in some simple, long satin ribbon ties. Here's the view, looking back at the dining room.

Vintage Christmas Decor Ideas for the Tree

And the tree, has the perfect little spot at the bottom of the stairs. I like it here, since you can see it from the living room, and also when you're eating Christmas dinner in the dining room.

The tree turned out great this year...even if it did take a few tries to get right. I decided on a vintage theme fairly early, and started shopping for decorations. As I accumulated them, I thought they'd really look better on a white tree. I found one at a good price and brought it home and set it up. It was 6 ft. but with the tall ceilings, and since we need a skinny tree for this little spot at the bottom of the stairs it just wasn't big enough, and didn't have enough presence to hold the space. After staring at it a few days, I reluctantly took it all apart and returned it. I went with my old tree and I'm so glad I did. It really is perfect for this space.

I had some vintage decorations, but I didn't think I had enough for a whole tree. So I started checking second hand stores as often as I could. My greatest find was this Shiny and Bright tree topper -it's perfectly pink. Love it.

Using Reproduction Ornaments

It was hard to find vintage ornaments. I found some that were old, but not antique, but I just mixed them in with the rest, and even dabbed a few with nail polish remover to age them a little more. The pretty silver ball garland with bells is a reproduction. And a few were from an antique store, but they can get really expensive. The easy way to tell the vintage decorations from reproductions is to look at the top, if it's old looking it probably is old.

These vintage foil balls were a fun find -love the bright pink one!

I did notice that Target has some really pretty reproduction vintage ornaments this year, and at The Bay you can buy brand new shiny and brights, inspired by the vintage ones. I wanted a vintage "inspired" Christmas look this year, but I'm not a stickler for everything being authentically vintage. I'm not trying to re-create a Christmas scene from the 1950's -I'm just using old things mixed with the new for an updated look. I love mixing vintage with contemporary for a fun look, with a nod to the past.

Red Wagon and Vintage Little Golden Books

Under the tree, we used a little red wagon that has a bit of a vintage look to it. Love it filled with little Christmas packages. In my visits to second hand stores I was also keeping my eyes open for some Christmas Little Golden Books.

Living Room

From the tree, into the living room -where it's snowing!

I thought it would be fun to make it snow in the living room by stringing cotton balls behind the couch.

To make the hanging snow I used fishing line, and around 500 cotton balls, but the effect is magical. I thought they looked so old fashioned and fun.

Above the shelf is the pretty vintage ornament wreath I made this year.

I love the pink, and the glitz -with more little trees.

Vintage Christmas Decor Ideas for the Mantel

Over at the fireplace, more snow is falling.

I put this village up every year, but this year it was certainly perfect with our vintage theme. You can see how I made these DIY Christmas glitter houses or putz houses here -all made out of old cereal boxes!

It's a little wonderland.

And the pretty banner is a free printable from here, with a little silver and gold glitter -the perfect finishing touch.

Kitchen

And now into the kitchen.

On the table, another little glitter house. This one with simple battery powered street lights, just hide the battery pack in the snow. 😉

Add a cloche, for the perfect little centre piece.

And one more.

Look it's snowing outside.
