Fall Home Tour: With a nod to science this botanical scientific vintage decor brings the outdoors in, with lots of neutrals and mustard yellow.

I think fall is my favourite. It just has so much going for it. Fresh apples, pumpkin spice everything, cooler temperatures, and the best decor. 😉
Botanical Scientific Decor
On fall weekends one of my favourite things to do is go for a walk in the woods with my family. Like a kid, I love finding treasures like pinecones, and acorns and colourful leaves. I think it's these fall walks in the woods that inspired my fall vintage scientific botanical decor theme. I love to decorate by bringing the outdoors in. Last year I was inspired by the idea of a botanist finding all kinds of seeds, plants, and treasures and bringing them home to study them. Check out last years fall home tour here. I loved it so much that this year, I kept the story going.
I had so much fun looking for cool vintage decor pieces that helped tell the story of a romantic plant loving botanist who spends her days studying the plants she loves. I've sprinkled little bits of science and lots of plants and seeds, and treasures found in nature throughout my decor.
The Dining Room
Let's start at the front door, with the console table. Our botanist has been working away here on her typewriter, and left her spectacles behind.
Over on the dining room table, I wanted it to look like she's been working away, and pushed everything into the middle so she could eat at the table.
I used this pretty vintage lace tablecloth in mustard yellow as a runner. This neutral loving girl decided to add in a little of this fall's it colour -mustard yellow. I've sprinkled little bits of it all over the main floor. And I love it.
The table is almost a cabinet of curiosities. There are lots of treasures for studying. Oak leaves, and acorns which always make me think of fall right away, and a collection of mushrooms and fungi. There's also antlers, feathers, and pretty pressed fall leaves.
One of my favourites on the table is this vintage microscope, found on kijiji by my sweet sister who knew I was looking for one to add to my science vibe last year.
And a new addition to the collection -this old notebook. I found it in an old box at an antique fair this weekend -you might have seen it in my Instagram Stories (follow along there if you love behind the scenes and sneak peeks).
I think she's been examining leaves and seeds with her magnifying glass, and measuring them with her little fold away ruler. 😉
Leaf Specimen Wall
She's been collecting lots of fall leaves, and the DIY buffalo check feature wall has become a catalogue display.
These pretty leaves are taped up with little washi tape and the heavier ones have a straight pin holding them up.
I love how it turned out.
Amber Glass Collection
And on the buffet, one of my favourite new collections of amber glass.
I've been picking them up at second hand stores as I see them, and the antique fair on the weekend. I saw the pretty beads at a display of costume jewelry there too, and thought they'd be a pretty addition to the display.
Fall Bar Cart
And one more fun area of the dining room, a bar cart all ready for fall entertaining.
I added a little more mustard yellow with these pretty amber glasses. And on the lower shelf, there's a whole collection of vintage glasses.
I thought it would be fun to add in some special drinks for fall.
I found some pumpkin beer and thought it would be fun to try with friends. Cider is a favourite of ours so I got some of it as well.
And just because cool fall nights might need a little warming up, a selection of whiskey too.
From the dining room we head into the living room.
The Stairs
This year I decorated the stairs for fall with a collection of pumpkins.
At the bottom of the stairs, a spot for a little table and a bowl of mini pumpkins and gourds. "Hello Gourd-geous" indeed.
The Living Room
Into the living room, and more pops of mustard yellow.
It really doesn't take too much of an accent colour to make a big impact. I made the tassel swag that I hung over the banister with some wool and some large wooden beads, and I love the pop of yellow and the boho vibe.
And another really easy, inexpensive way to add an accent colour for fall was painting the bottom of this pumpkin with some mustard yellow craft paint.
Fall Fireplace Mantel
The fireplace mantel is a real favourite this year too. I continued the science botanist theme here as well.
This vintage portable desk is an old find. I think my botanist has had it out in the field to keep track of her papers, books, sketches, and water colours.
The scientific glass is a mixture of new and vintage, and works perfectly as a vase.
I added lots of seeds and nuts to the display too.
The macrame swag is a DIY project from a few years ago, check out the post about how I made it here.
Mustard Yellow Accent Colour
The pretty pillows on the couch are where the whole idea of adding a little yellow started.
My favourite is the beautiful mud cloth pillow from Dwellissimo.
The colour is amazing, the texture adds so much, and the pattern is perfect.
I kind of love it.
On the table are a few more vintage finds. I love how much character and interest they add to the space.
My side table stump tables -see how I made them here, are looking ready for fall with a little fern and squirel.
This chair is a real favourite spot for just about everyone, including our dog Oscar.
The Kitchen
Into the kitchen, the final room of the tour.
I found this pretty knit runner at Homesense the other day. It was still hot weather then, but I knew if I didn't grab it I'd regret it. I brought it home and as soon as it turned a little cooler this week, I knew it was perfect for my fall decor.
I love how fluffy and cozy it looks. It will be perfect for Christmas and winter too.
I used a selection of pumpkins on top for a simple fall display.
Fall Hot Chocolate Station
Over on the little side cabinet, I've set up a hot chocolate bar for fall.
My girls love having a hot chocolate on fall days after school, and this little hot chocolate bar complete with sprinkles and flavoured marshmallows makes it even more fun.
Kitchen Shelves
Over on the other side of the kitchen, I had so much fun decorating the open shelves for fall. We gave our kitchen a makeover last November for the One Room Challenge so this is the first time I've had a chance to decorate it for fall.
There are a few more touches of yellow.
It was fun finding a few more vintages touches with mustard and wood tones for fall to add to the shelves. The leaf is a pressed one found on a walk and added to a little frame.
The golden rod is from the little meadow spot behind our house and it's the perfect colour.
I know winter is coming, and I will miss being able to pick flowers so easily. Best to enjoy it while it lasts.
And that is my home all decorated with fall, with a little science in the mix, and the perfect amount of mustard yellow. I hope it inspires you to bring the outdoors in, and add a few simple touches to embrace the season. May there be many walks in the woods to collect fall treasures, and hot chocolates afterward for us all this fall.
With a home all ready for fall, life really is a party.
