The History of Vintage Easter Postcards
I found these vintage cards at a little antique shop near my house. Unfortunately it has recently closed, but it had boxes and boxes of old antique postcards. Some were from travel, but there were also lots from different holidays.
In the days before long distance phone calls were common, when there was no email, or you not could send a text, people sent these little postcards for holidays and occasions. It was really common practise to send a greeting like this on special holidays. Families often lived a great distance from each other, and travel was more expensive, took much longer, and was quite uncomfortable. These little seasonal greetings were a great way to share with family that you were thinking of them on a special occasion and family celebrations like Easter weekend and send them some Easter blessings. Postcards were more common than cards. They were cheaper to send then a bulky Easter greeting card and envelope, and quick to write because of the small sizes of the writing space. Vintage postcards were often saved for their pretty vintage pictures, and put on display for the season as Easter decor. Several of these postcards have a postmark on the back, one dates to 1907, one was mailed in 1908, and another in 1914. It's incredible to think that they are over 100 years old. I would assume that they're all from around the same time period. Since these images are all over 100 years old, they're free from copyright.

I used the vintage Easter postcards as part of my Easter decor this year. They are a very pretty addition, displayed with some other Easter favourites. I love the vintage look and the cottagecore vibes. What's also great about these vintage Easter postcards is how easy they are to store, since they're small and flat. I can bring them out to decorate for one of my favorite holidays, year after year. Last year I used them as a banner, and this year I did something a bit different with them. They add a vintage feel to whatever you place them with.
