These mini brownie donuts are a combination of fudgy brownies and donut form or as some people call them bronuts. These fudgy bronuts are so good. You'll love our chocolatey bronuts no matter what you call them.
When it comes to new recipe ideas, I've had my failures from time to time. I can usually tweak them a little, and the good news is always that even if they aren't great, the evidence doesn't last too long anyway.
Let me tell you, this baking experiment was a winner right out of the gate. Honestly my very favourite new recipe, and it was met with rave reviews by my extended family and neighbours, who couldn't stop eating them. If you're having chocolate cravings, we're here to help.
If You Can Dream It Brownie Donuts
It all started weeks and weeks ago, when I was imagining what a brownie donut would be like. This weekend I finally got around to trying it out. And they were amazing. They have the chewiness of normal brownies, with crispy edges. If you're a person who loves to eat a corner brownie because it's a little bit more chewy and crisp around the edges, imagine if every piece was like an edge piece. Because each individual mini brownie donut has lots of edges, they all have that great chewy, crispy texture on the edges and are still soft in the middle. Plus, these brownie donuts have the most delicious sweet and thick chocolate glaze on top, that take them to the next level.
I started out with a simple grocery store brownie mix, and my mini donut pan. Mix the brownie mix according to the package directions. I used a brownie mix because it's quicker and easier than making brownie batter from scratch. But if you have a homemade brownie recipe that you love, feel free to use your favorite brownie recipe instead of a boxed mix to make your brownie doughnuts. Once you have the brownie mixture made, put the batter into a ziplock bag with the end snipped off so I could pipe the batter into the pan. I found this was the easiest way to neatly and quickly get the brownie batter into the mini donut pan and it gave me the best results.
Oil, Oil, Oil The Pan
I made sure to oil my non-stick brownie pan very well. The more oil the better, I even went to the trouble of washing and re-oiling my donut pan with every new batch...5 dozen brownies later, I was wishing I had at least one more pan to cut the time down, but in the end it was worth it. You could also use a nonstick cooking spray for this step. I used a non-stick metal pans, but a silicone donut pan would make it even easier to get the finished mini donuts out of the pan.
I baked mine for seven minutes, you'll have to adjust the cooking time according to your pan size, brownie mix, and oven. You want the brownie donut batter to puff up a little, and cook through so it holds it shape well, but still be a little chewy and still have that brownie like fudgy texture on the inside and moist crumbs.
After the brownies cooled they needed the perfect chocolate glaze icing, and this one is truly perfect. You might not think that brownie donuts really need icing, but trust me this rich fudge icing is what make this a great recipe.
Chocolate Glaze
The finishing touch to these little chocolate donuts is the amazing chocolate glaze. The first step to making it is on the stove, and it's a warm glaze that is applied to the brownie donuts by dipping them it, which is a great quick and easy method. As the glaze cools it sets. After dipping you can also sprinkle them with chocolate sprinkles to turn them into triple chocolate brownie donuts. The sprinkles add a little crunch to the mini donuts. With or without the sprinkles they're delicious.
Mini Brown Donuts
I really liked the mini size of our brownie donuts. They were such a delicious little bite. They also had the best chewy texture. You could also make these regular donut sized if you wish. They would take less time to make and decorate. The mini donuts did take quite a lot of time to bake. If you do make them regular donut size, just be sure to increase the cooking time to accommodate the change in size.
Store these delicious homemade brownie donuts in an airtight container at room temperature.
I served the mini donuts in an olive tray, which worked great, and gives you an idea how small they were. Everything really is cuter when it's mini! These delicious treats didn't last too long. They were a real crowd favorite.
Seriously, one of my best recipe ideas EVER. You need to try these delicious bronuts. These are not your average donut. They have all the goodness of regular brownies, but with more with the chewy edges from the donut's round shape. And let's not forget the addition of the delicious chocolate glaze. The decadent brownies turned donuts are so good.

Alison, I think it would be a little longer for sure for a larger donut size. You should be able to test when it's cooked though. Best of luck with it.

Yum! I love this! You see cake mix cookies and donuts all over the place, I’ve always wondered about using brownie mix! Good to know it works just the same! Can’t wait to try these, I’m vegan so I will be veganizing them! If I use a regular size donut pan, what do you think the time difference would be? If any? Thanks!

Hi Pam, this recipe is just for the icing...not the brownies, I used a mix for them. So yes, no flour in the icing glaze. Hope this helps.
